How big is your roster?

Hey,

so, we’ve been open for business for a few weeks now, and we hope you like the service. Please don’t hesitate to post feedback here about the service, or ideas of features you’d like to see.

However, we’d like to improve the service even more, so we launched a quick poll.

How big is YOUR roster? (Roster is your contact list :) )

We’ve set up the poll on Tigase.org, and we’d appreciate if you could spare 15 seconds to just click how big your roster is :)

Cheers,

Florian

Jabber.me now has transports!

Hey!

Great news! We just finished the work on the transports. Jabber.me and Tigase.im now offer the following transports:

  • AIM
  • GG
  • ICQ
  • MSN
  • MySpace
  • QQ
  • SIMPLE
  • XMPP
  • Yahoo

These transports are available for all domains on our server, meaning jabber.me, tigase.im and all personal domains.

I’d like to thank the people at Spectrum.im for their development work, and Artur for fixing two small bugs in Tigase to make Spectrum work. Cheers guys!

Use your own domain!

Did you always want to run your own XMPP server, bit just didn’t know how? Well, then we’ve got something for you!

Starting from today, you can use your own domain on the new Jabber.me / Tigase.im servers.

The only requirement is that you have a valid domain name, that you have DNS access to, in order for you to set up the DNS records. Currently, there are two ways of doing this:

SRV Records (recommended)

Create 2 SRV records:

_xmpp-client._tcp.yourdomain.tld
_xmpp-server._tcp.yourdomain.tld

pointing to tigase.me.

A Record

This is the alternative way. Just point an A record to 94.23.164.209.

SRV records are the recommended way by the XMPP specification though. We only offer the alternative, as some DNS services might not offer SRV records at this point.

Now, the next step would be to get the Domain enabled on the server. As of now, we don’t have a nice web interface to do this, so in order to activate your domain, please contact us here, or just leave a comment with your E-mail and the domain name, and we’ll get in touch.

User registration is available via the in-band registration protocol. You can also specify whether you want to allow anonymous authentication to be available for your domain and you can specify maximum number of users for your domain. The maximum number of users parameter is not yet respected by the server but it will soon be.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome!
